Plymouth/Devon Autism Alert Card

Plymouth/Devon Autism Alert Card

A new initiative has been launched for people on the autistic spectrum in Plymouth, Devon and the Torbay areas - The Autism Alert Card. It is fully supported by the Devon & Cornwall Police, Devon County Council, Plymouth City Council, Torbay Council, Devon Link Up, Dimensions For Living and others.

It can be used in emergency situations, to prevent an emergency situation arising, and when faced with stressful situations. When showing the card to others the card confirms that the cardholder is autistic and:

  • Local Authorities and the NHS should take this account when communicating with you.
  • Other organisations should be aware that you come under the Equality Act and should, where possible, make reasonable adjustments to meet your needs.

When showing the card people on the spectrum should get a better response from others and a greater chance of appropriate support.

The card is free, with ongoing support provided by Dimensions For Living, and displays the logo of the Devon & Cornwall Police which emphasises the official nature of the card.

To find out more information about the card and how to apply please visit the Dimensions for Living website.
